2 terminal, normally closed switch. Plunger depressed will open the switch. In normal applications for brake light operation, this switch sits depressed against the brake pedal arm. As the brakes are applied and the arm moves away from the switch, the plunger extends closing the contacts, providing activation to the brake lights
